Mysuru: Eminent Sarod maestro Rajeev Taranath passes away at 91

Mysuru: World-renowned music stalwart and eminent Sarod maestro Rajeev Taranath passed away today. He was 91 years old.

Rajeev Taranath had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysuru for the past 15 days. Despite the treatment, he breathed his last on Tuesday.

A towering figure in the Hindustani classical music field, Rajeev Taranath was an unparalleled virtuoso of the Sarod. His contributions to music earned him numerous awards, including the prestigious Padma Shri and Nadoja honours.

Arrangements have been made for the public to pay their last respects at his residence in Kuvempunagar, Mysuru, on Wednesday.

Chief Minister’s Condolence:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his condolences over Rajeev Taranath’s demise through a post on X.

“I am deeply saddened by the demise of the globally renowned Sarod player and Karnataka’s proud son, Pandit Rajeev Taranath. His passing is an irreplaceable loss not only to Karnataka but to the entire world of music. Rajeev Taranath was not just a celebrated musician but also an exemplary humanist. I join his family and admirers in their grief. May his soul rest in peace,” the Chief Minister stated.
