Udupi: The Udupi District BJP organized a massive protest near the district office on Monday, condemning the state government for the hike in petrol and diesel prices.
District President Kishore Kumar Kundapura spoke at the protest, accusing the Congress government of deceiving people by making false promises during the 2023 elections. He claimed that after coming to power, the government failed to fulfill its promises and cheated the people. Though the protest highlights common people’s issues, the government did not grant permission for it, he said.
He further criticized the government for its apparent lack of concern for ordinary citizens, noting that even the incentives for milk are not being provided. He accused the state government of constantly criticizing the central government.
Kundapura warned that if fuel prices are not reduced, a more intense agitation will follow. He expressed that the Congress government has pushed people to the brink, making them beg for alms.
MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty also addressed the gathering, stating that the increase in fuel prices would lead to a rise in the prices of all goods. The development works have stalled due to the lack of funds from the government, he said.
Shetty accused the government of wasting time and acting unjustly towards the people, doubting its capability to govern effectively, and added that protests would continue in the coming days.
Satish Shetty Mutlupady, General Secretary, alleged that under the guise of guarantees, the state government has looted crores of rupees. He also mentioned that several farmers have committed suicide within a year of the government taking office.
During the protest, BJP activists blocked the roads, expressing their anger and frustration.
