Padubidri: A continuous trend of buses using the highway without descending to the service road has been noted in Padubidri. This led to an accident on Friday evening when a car collided with the rear of a bus.
An occupant in the car identified as Pushpalatha Acharya (56) from Mangaluru’s Mangaladevi area sustained severe injuries. She has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
The accident occurred on National Highway 66 when a non-stop bus traveling from Mangaluru to Udupi abruptly stopped without any warning. Consequently, a car following the bus collided with its rear end.
Of the three occupants in the car traveling from Mangaluru to Udupi, Pushpalatha, who was seated next to the driver, sustained serious injuries to her legs, hands, and nose. After first aid in Padubidri, she was taken to a private hospital in Mangaluru for further care.
The front of the car was completely damaged in the accident. Padubidri police visited the accident site.
Just two days before the accident, “Udayavani” had highlighted the issue of buses stopping on the highway, causing inconvenience to the residents of Padubidri. Despite this, express and service buses continue to flout rules and stop on the highway.
