Mangaluru: Capt. Brijesh Chowta, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Dakshina Kannada constituency, took his oath on Monday.
What stood out in his swearing-in ceremony was his invocation of the deities (Daivas) of Tulu Nadu.
On Monday, Captain Brijesh Chowta was sworn in as a member of the Lok Sabha. Speaking in Kannada, he said, “I, Captain Brijesh Chowta, having been elected as a member of the Lok Sabha, swear in the name of the Daiva deities of Tulu Nadu that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as established by law, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, and that I will faithfully discharge the duty upon which I am about to enter.”
He concluded his oath with the Tulu phrase “Maateregla Solmelu,” acknowledging and thanking the Parliament.
