KMF’s milk price hike sparks controversy in Karnataka
PTI, Jun 25, 2024, 4:11 PM IST
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) stirred controversy by announcing a milk price hike effective June 26. This decision has led to fierce political debate, with opposition parties accusing the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of adding financial strain on citizens.
Siddaramaiah has denied government involvement, stating that the decision rests solely with KMF. The Chief Minister pointed out that, even with the increase, Karnataka’s milk prices remain lower compared to other states.
The new pricing structure sees a 500 ml packet, previously costing Rs 22, now priced at Rs 24, with a 50 ml increase in quantity. Similar adjustments have been made for other milk categories under the Nandini brand.
