Bengaluru: As dengue cases continue to rise across the state, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed health department officials to ensure an adequate stockpile of vaccines and platelets necessary for treatment.

In a meeting held on Tuesday with Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao and health officials, the Chief Minister addressed the urgent need for dengue control measures. As of June 24th, 5,374 dengue cases have been reported, resulting in 5 deaths. Notably, 1,230 of these cases are under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Siddaramaiah emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the necessity of implementing effective control measures.

Maintaining Mortality Rate Below 0.09%

The mortality rate in the state stands at 0.09%, according to the Central Health Department, which specifies that the rate should not exceed 0.5%. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of ensuring this rate does not increase. He highlighted that a significant number of cases have been reported in Bangalore, Chikkamagaluru, Mysore, Haveri, Shimoga, Chitradurga, and Dakshina Kannada districts.

Enhanced Weekly Campaigns

During the meeting, it was decided to intensify the special campaign aimed at detecting and destroying sources of dengue spread. This campaign will be conducted more effectively every Friday across the state.

Continued Testing and Awareness Efforts

Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao emphasized the importance of not reducing the frequency of dengue testing, as early detection and treatment can significantly impact patient outcomes. He also stressed the need to destroy dengue-causing larvae and eggs at their source.

To bolster these efforts, a house-to-house survey will be conducted with the assistance of Asha workers, nursing students, ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) students, and other volunteers. This initiative aims to raise awareness about dengue prevention and control among residents.

The state government’s proactive measures highlight the critical need to curb the spread of dengue and safeguard public health.
