Mangaluru: A holiday has been declared for schools in Dakshina Kannada on June 27, following IMD issuing a Red Alert for the district forecasting very heavy rainfall.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner in a press release announced that all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools in the district shall remain closed on June 27, 2024.

This decision comes in response to the Red Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre indicating a high possibility of extremely heavy rainfall for Thursday.

The District Disaster Management Authority has outlined several precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Potential flood and landslide-prone areas have been identified, and necessary precautions have been implemented. The public and tourists are advised to avoid waterlogged areas, lakes, riverbanks, and sea shores.

Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the sea for fishing activities. The authorities have also cautioned the public to stay away from rivers and streams during this period of heavy rainfall.

In case of any natural disaster incidents or signs of potential disasters, the public is urged to inform the respective Panchayat or urban local bodies immediately. The district administration has emphasized the importance of following their advice and staying away from hazardous situations to prevent potential damages.
