Kaup: National-level FIDE rated rapid chess tournament inaugurated

Kaup: The national-level FIDE-rated rapid chess tournament for the Sri Narayana Guru Trophy was inaugurated at the Sri Hale Marigudi Temple Hall in Kaup by the former administrator of the temple, Sridhar Shenoy. The tournament is organized under the auspices of Sri Narayana Guru School of Chess, Udupi, and Kaup.

Speaking at the event, businessman Ashok Kumar Shetty highlighted the importance of chess as an Indian game that stimulates the mind and enhances intelligence. He praised the organization of a national-level tournament in a rural area like Kapu, noting that it is a commendable effort to nurture national-level talent.

The event was presided over by businessman Avinash Shetty. MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty extended his best wishes. Ashok Kumar Shetty and Ramesh R. Poojary initiated the tournament by making the first moves on the chessboard.

Prominent attendees included President of Sri Narayana Guru Sports and Education Trust Umanath Kaup, Panvel Soans, Narayana Sherigar, Lakshmi Narayana Acharya, Nagesh Karanth, and Chief Arbiter Vasanth B.H. from Bengaluru. The event’s founder, FIDE Arbiter and coach Sakshath U.K., welcomed the gathering. The event was hosted and concluded with a vote of thanks by Director Soundarya U.K.

442 Participants

The chess tournament saw participation from 442 competitors from various states, including Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Delhi, and West Bengal.
