Kerala: Timely treatment cure shigella infection in four students

PTI, Jul 1, 2024, 11:18 AM IST

In a recent health scare in north Kerala, four students were successfully treated for a Shigella infection, a health official announced on Monday. The timely detection and treatment were pivotal in the students’ recovery.

The infection surfaced when 148 students from a school in Kozhippuram Vennaiyur sought treatment for food poisoning following a school feast on June 23. During their examination, four were found to be infected with Shigella, a leading bacterial cause of diarrhea globally.

According to the health official, none of the Shigella-infected students required hospitalization, underscoring the importance of early medical intervention.
