Bengaluru: The state government informed the Karnataka High Court that the deadline for installing “High-Security Registration Plates” (HSRP) on vehicles in Karnataka has been extended to September 15.
Appeals challenging the decision of a single-judge bench, which dismissed a petition seeking to stay the implementation of HSRP, were scheduled for hearing before a division bench comprising Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria and Justice K.V. Aravind on Thursday.
During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Vikram Huilgol informed the bench that the state government had extended the deadline for HSRP installation to September 15.
In response, the petitioners’ counsel requested an opportunity to present their arguments regarding the interim order issued by the court.
The bench noted the extension granted by the government but emphasized the need to hear the petitioners’ arguments, subsequently adjourning the matter to July 25.
1.4 Crore Vehicles Yet to Register
As of now, HSRP has been installed on 4.3 million vehicles in the state, leaving approximately 13 to 14 million vehicles pending registration.
