Shiggaon: Former Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament, Basavaraj Bommai, announced on Saturday that he will embark on a “Dhanyavada Yatre” (gratitude tour) in his constituency starting from July 12. He attributed his political success to the blessings of the people of Shiggaon.

In a press conference held in Shiggaon, Bommai discussed the upcoming Shiggaon by-election. “We have formed a committee under the leadership of Ashok. The party is conducting a survey. There will be no poster campaigns in Shiggaon,” he said.

Bommai criticized the state government, claiming it is in a dire financial state and lacks concern for public welfare. He alleged that the government has diverted Rs 14,000 crores meant for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) to guarantee schemes, thereby deceiving these communities.

“This money should have been used for the development of SC and ST communities. Instead, it is being misused for political gains and votes, amounting to a legal violation. They have misused Rs 25,000 crores. Those claiming to be champions of backward classes have allocated less money for them. If the treasury is in good condition, why are you dipping into the pockets of SCs and STs?” he questioned.

Bommai also criticized the district administration for failing to take precautionary measures against dengue. “Ministers are merely holding meetings. Without proper treatment, there will be casualties, and people are suffering. The health department has completely failed, and the District Health Officer (DHO) should be transferred,” he demanded.

Regarding the Mahadayi issue, Bommai accused the Monitoring Committee of overstepping its authority and criticized the Goa government for its role in the matter.
