Udupi: Following a red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rains continue to lash the coastal districts.

On Tuesday, incessant rains were reported in Brahmavara and Kundapur regions of the district. Persistent rainfall, over the past two days, has led to flood-like situations in several areas, cutting off connectivity.

The Seetha and Swarna rivers are in spate, inundating nearby areas. Residents in regions such as Navunda, Salbuda, Badakere, Maravanthe, Chikkalli, Padukone, and Arehole are marooned.

Significant flood damage has occurred in the Kota area, prompting visits from the local MP, Assistant Commissioners as well as Deputy Commissioner. Trees and electric poles have fallen onto roads in various locations, further complicating the situation.

The bridge connecting Choradi Baranakolaki to Madur in Haladi has collapsed, severing links between villages.
