Heavy rain in Dakshina Kannada district: Damage reported in many areas

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district continues to experience heavy rainfall. On Tuesday, the entire district was hit by rain and strong winds throughout the day, causing damage in some areas.

Due to continuous rainfall, a large pit formed near a house in Sampaje, which has since been filled by the Panchayat. In Subrahmanya, the Kumaradhara bathing ghat area is still submerged, although water levels have slightly decreased.

In Bantwal, the Nethravathi River level rose to 6.6 meters in the morning, reduced to 6.4 meters by evening. In Surathkal, sea erosion intensified near Battappadi. Mangaluru saw rains throughout the day, with trees falling on houses in Kavoor, Maroli, and Alape causing damage.

Red Alert 

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the coastal region for Wednesday, warning of heavy rainfall and advising the public to remain cautious. From Thursday, an orange alert will be in effect for three days, with the possibility of continuous winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 km/h.

Subrahmanya: Bathing ghat submerged

Subrahmanya: Due to continuous rain, the Kumaradhara River in Kukke Subrahmanya is overflowing. The water level slightly decreased on Tuesday.

On Monday night, the water level in the river rose, partially submerging the bathing area’s restrooms and luggage rooms and flooding the highway. However, by Tuesday morning, the water levels had receded, allowing vehicular movement on the highway to resume. By evening, the water level in the river further decreased, but the bathing area remained submerged.

Aranthodu: Landslide at Koyanadu, School to shut

Koyanadu: ಶಾಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರೆ ಜರಿದು ಹಾನಿ : 3 ತಿಂಗಳು ಶಾಲೆ ಮುಚ್ಚಲು ನಿರ್ಧಾರ

Aranthodu: Due to heavy rain, a landslide occurred on a hillock behind Koyanadu School, causing soil to fall on the school building. The school has been ordered to close until the rainy season ends.

From Thursday, Koyanadu School students will be taught at the nearby Sampaje Primary School. The department has decided to close Koyanadu School for the next three months due to the danger posed by the landslide.
