Former Minister B. Ramanath Rai stated that the emergency imposed by the Indira Gandhi government did not harm Dakshina Kannada district; rather, it led to the implementation of several progressive projects during that time.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Congress district office on Thursday, Rai highlighted that various initiatives such as the Land Reforms Act, bank nationalization, Debt Relief Act, and bus nationalization were implemented during the emergency period. He criticized the BJP for tarnishing the legacy of Indira Gandhi, who sacrificed her life for the country.

Rai also defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that the BJP is making baseless allegations against him for his comments in Parliament about non-violence in Hinduism.

Cashew Corporation Chairperson Mamatha Gatti, former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Surendra Kambli, Baby Kunder, Piyush Rodrigues, Naveen D’Souza, Appi, Jayashila Adyanthaya, Yogish Nayak, Nityanand Shetty, and Neeth Sharon were present.
