Mangaluru: The 6th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man, his first wife, his mother, and the first wife’s brother to six years of rigorous imprisonment and fined them Rs 25,000 each in connection with a dowry death case.
The convicted individuals are Majeed Ahmed (35) from Tiplapur village in Bhadravati taluk, his first wife Sapoor Anjum (28), his mother Mamataz Banu (60), and Sapoor’s brother Jameer Ahmed (30), a resident of Kazi Mohalla 4th Cross in Bhadravati Old Town. The deceased woman is Reshma Banu (26) from Channagiri.
Majeed Ahmed had married Reshma Banu as his second wife, and they were living in a rented house in Katipalla 9th Block while he operated a garage in Surathkal. Majeed, along with his mother and others, subjected Reshma to physical and mental harassment for dowry.
On April 28, 2019, while Reshma was resting in her room, Majeed allegedly returned from his garage and suffocated her with a pillow.
Later, all four accused used a dupatta to hang her from a ceiling fan. A case was registered against the accused at the Surathkal police station.
After a thorough investigation, the court found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.
