Ankola: The operation to safely empty the LPG tanker that swept into the Gangavali River during a landslide near Shirur in Ankola, Uttara Kannada district, began on Thursday.
For two days, the tanker had been floating and anchored 7 km away from Shirur near Sagadgeri village. The process involves emptying the gas while the tanker is submerged in the river and then pulling it out.
A team comprising MRPL, NDRF, SDRF, Navy, and other experts arrived on Thursday morning. The tanker was tied down with ropes and was pulled to the riverbank within half an hour.
By 2 PM, the operation to release the gas from the tanker started. This process is expected to be completed by Friday evening.
