Udupi: A holiday has been declared for schools and PU Colleges in Udupi district on Saturday, July 20.

The schools in the district remained closed on Friday following a red alert and heavy rainfall warning.

A red alert has been issued for Udupi district, cautioning about extremely heavy rain and strong winds. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has decided to extend the holiday for Anganwadis, primary, high schools, and pre-university colleges.

Low-lying areas in the district are flooded, causing anxiety among residents near riverbanks. The extensive rain has resulted in significant crop damage, especially for farmers cultivating paddy. With large amounts of rainwater inundating fields, farmers are facing severe challenges.

The district administration has advised residents to remain vigilant.
