Udupi: A stray dog attacked and injured eight people on Maruthi Veethika in Udupi on Saturday (July 20) afternoon.
The dog, in a highly aggressive state, attacked anyone in its path, even biting off pieces of flesh from some individuals’ legs. All the injured were taken to Udupi District Hospital, where they received outpatient treatment.
Locals observed that the dog, which appeared to have come from an unknown location, seemed rabid. Exhausted after biting multiple people, the dog collapsed in the grounds of Udupi North School. Concerned citizens immediately informed Nityananda Volakadu, the Director of the Udupi District Nagarika Samiti, about the situation.
Nityananda Volakadu promptly informed Municipal Commissioner Rayappa and members of the Animal Welfare Association. Upon arriving at the scene, Commissioner Rayappa, along with Manjula and Prithvi from the Animal Welfare Association, conducted an inspection.
It is gathered that a veterinarian was called and the dog was put down after taking appropriate measures.
