The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has intensified operations against vehicles equipped with high-beam and glaring headlights. Between June 15 and July 23, the police registered 1,170 cases, and Rs 5,86,500 was collected as fines.
Police have advised the public to install only the headlights specified as per the standards indicated in the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989, on their motor vehicles. Additional decorative lights and glaring LED bulbs are not permitted.
Further, it said that vehicles must not be driven with high-beam lights on all roads within the Mangaluru City Commissionerate, including national and state highways where streetlights are present
Two-wheelers and auto-rickshaws should only have one or two headlights. Four-wheelers and multi-axle vehicles should only have two or four headlights. The light emitted from vehicle headlights must not affect the vision of other drivers and cause inconvenience to them, stated Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal.
