Mangaluru: In a heartwarming turn of events, 36 individuals with mental health issues who had strayed away from home have been successfully reunited with their families, thanks to the Aadhaar system. These individuals were being treated at the Snehalaya Rehabilitation Center in Manjeshwar.

Snehalaya, which currently treats 350 people, faced challenges in identifying the addresses of many of its residents. In a recent collaborative effort between Snehalaya and the Aadhaar Seva Kendra, Mangaluru, an Aadhaar camp was organized.

During the fingerprint verification process, it was discovered that 36 residents already had Aadhaar cards. This breakthrough allowed the center to trace their addresses and contact their families, facilitating their return home. A person from Bellary was also reunited with family recently.

Happy reunion for Mantu Singh from Bihar

In 2020, Mantu Singh, a deaf and mute individual from Bihar, was found sleeping at a bus stop near Farangipet. He was rescued and brought to the Snehalaya center. With no knowledge of his name or address, his identity remained a mystery for years.

During the recent Aadhaar camp, his details were finally uncovered. It was gathered that Mantu Singh hailed from Simaria in Bihar and belonged to a farming family. He previously worked as a JCB driver. It was revealed that his mental health issues were linked to ganja consumption, which led to his disappearance from home. Having now recovered, Mantu Singh was sent back to his family on Saturday, July 28, 2024.
