Belthangady: Eshwar Malpe’s team successfully opened the stuck gate of the 27.47-acre Pernale Lake in Thotattadi village, Charmadi GP on August 3.
This lake in the Charmadi forest area is a source of summer irrigation water for over 300 families in the village. This time, the lake was completely full due to the rains.
The local administration and villagers had made several attempts to open the gate, which was installed to release the lake water. Due to the high water level in the lake, it was not possible. If the water was not released, the lake canal or its sides would have broken, posing a risk to areas like Nelligudde, Kanchari Kanda, Bendrala, etc.
Operation to Open the Gate
Eshwar Malpe’s team arrived on Saturday and inspected the gate by diving 20 feet deep. They found that sandbags used to store water during the summer had blocked the gate. The team removed the sandbags and successfully opened the gate.
Belthangady Tahsildar Prithvi Sanikam, forest, police, fire personnel, KPCC Secretary Rakshith Shivaram, GP representatives, and officials were present.
