BSY corruption case: Court directs to submit progress report on investigation

In connection with corruption allegations, Lokayukta investigating officer appeared before the Special Court for People’s Representatives, submitting an explanation in response to a showcause notice issued to former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra, and others.

The court expressed dissatisfaction with the progress report of the investigation. It noted that despite repeated assurances of an ongoing investigation into shell companies, the police had not completed the probe even after two years. The court has postponed the next hearing to September 5, 2024.

The allegations stem from claims that B.S. Yediyurappa and others misused their power to award housing project contracts of the Bangalore Development Authority to Ramalingam Construction Company. It is alleged that they accepted bribes worth crores of rupees through shell companies.

Social activist T.J. Abraham filed a private complaint against B.S. Yediyurappa, B.Y. Vijayendra, Shashidhar Maradi, Sanjay Shree, Chandrakant Ramalingam, S.T. Somashekhar, Dr. G.C. Prakash, K. Ravi, and Virupakshappa Yamakkanamaradi. In 2022, the Special Court for People’s Representatives directed Lokayukta police to file an FIR and conduct an investigation into the matter.
