Padubidri: The owners of local vehicles that are exempt from toll charges at Hejamady KKR Toll Plaza must submit a copy of their vehicle’s RC (Registration Certificate) by August 31.
Following a vandalism incident on August 6 involving a youth from Bantwal, toll officials initiated a collection of documents for vehicles claiming exemption. During this process, over 2,000 new local vehicles reportedly received toll exemptions in July.
In response, a banner was placed, instructing all local vehicles with full toll exemption to submit their RC copies at the toll office by August 10. However, due to inadequate dissemination of this information, the Toll Protest Committee, led by President Shekhar Hejamady, met with Toll Manager Thimmayya A.S. on the evening of August 9 for discussions.
Thimmayya assured that the organization is committed to continuing the toll exemption for local vehicles as instructed by the district administration. However, he noted that over 2,000 new vehicles in Hejamady alone were found to have passed through the toll in July, many with fake documents. He emphasized that by submitting RC copies, the records can be computerized, allowing for legitimate exemptions to be granted. Therefore, the deadline for submitting the RC copies has been extended to August 31.
During the meeting, Shekhar Hejamady also requested the employment of local workers at the toll plaza and appealed for enhanced security for the locals.
Committee members Panduranga Karkera, Madhu Acharya Mulki, Sudheer Karkera, Tejapal Suvarna, Santosh Padubidri, Rameez Hussain, Khader Hejamady, Pranesh Hejamady, Vikramraj Suvarna, Ahmad Kabir, Abdul Rehman, Kasim, and others were present.
