Shivamogga: Woman dies after being bitten by pet cat

A tragic incident has occurred in the Taralaghatta area of Shikaripura Taluk, Shivamogga district, where a 50-year-old woman named passed away after being bitten by her pet cat.

Two months ago, the cat, which the woman had raised as a pet, attacked and bit her. The same cat had previously attacked a young man in the Taralaghatta camp before biting the woman.

The cat, infected with rabies, bit the woman on her leg, requiring her to take five rabies injections. However, after taking just one injection, she felt better and resumed work in the fields. Unfortunately, her condition worsened later on.

The same cat also attacked and bit a dog, which has since died.

Health department officials have confirmed that rabies can be transmitted not only by dogs but also by cats, and they have advised anyone bitten to seek medical attention immediately.
