Mangaluru: As a prelude to this year’s Independence Day celebrations, a “Tiranga Yatra” will be organized on August 14, with the participation of citizens, announced MP Captain Brijesh Chowta.
Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, he said that the yatra would commence at 3:30 PM from the Karavali Utsav Grounds and conclude at the Manjeshwar Govinda Pai Circle.
MP Brijesh Chowta noted that Prime Minister Modi has brought national festivals, which were once confined to offices, into the public domain. This has encouraged ordinary citizens to celebrate these festivals in a grand manner. The Tiranga Yatra is being organized to symbolize the unity and integrity of the nation.
He invited everyone to participate in the yatra and emphasized that only cloth flags should be used, not plastic ones. Arrangements have been made to provide tricolor flags to those who need them. Several educational institutions have already been invited, and it is expected that students will also take part in the event. He urged all interested individuals to join the yatra.
To complement the yatra, an exhibition will be held at the Bhuvanendra Hall of Canara Dongerkery School in the evening to educate people about the dark days of the Partition of India.
Har Ghar Tiranga Initiative
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, local representatives will visit the homes of all beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, offering sweets, hoisting the national flag, and presenting Prime Minister Modi’s book. This symbolic event will be conducted in nine homes per constituency over three days, Chowta added.
Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur was also present at the press conference.
