Traders in Udupi staged a unique protest on Saturday, August 17, by rolling on the ground (Urulu Seve) to oppose the sale of the APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) land in Adi Udupi.
The protest took place at the entrance of the Udupi Agricultural Produce Market, located on Malpe Road, where the traders gathered to express their strong opposition. They raised slogans against the APMC officials and displayed black flags as a sign of protest.
The traders confronted the APMC officials when they arrived to survey 11 plots of land and accused them of conducting the survey without prior notice.
The traders declared that selling government land for any reason is illegal and unacceptable. They demanded that the authorities take immediate action to stop the sale, stating that there is no one to listen to the farmers’ grievances, and they will not allow the sale to proceed under any circumstances.
