Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP has expressed strong outrage over a controversial statement made by Congress leader and MLC Ivan D’Souza, who warned that Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot could face a situation similar to that of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh if the Centre does not recall him.

D’Souza made the remarks during a protest organized in Mangaluru by district Congress workers on Monday. The protest was against the Governor’s decision to grant prosecution permission against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the MUDA scandal.

BJP leaders responded swiftly, condemning D’Souza’s comments as “provocative and unconstitutional.” Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra demanded that the state’s Director General of Police take strict legal action against D’Souza for his “gangster-like” statements and behavior. He criticized Congress for attempting to intimidate a constitutional authority and questioned the party’s commitment to upholding the Constitution.

BJP MLC C.T. Ravi also criticized D’Souza, questioning the motive behind his statement and asking if Congress plans to storm Raj Bhavan. Ravi called for the police to file a case against D’Souza and take appropriate action, emphasizing the need to investigate any unconstitutional acts.

D’Souza’s remarks have sparked a significant controversy, with BJP leaders asserting that the Congress party is adopting a dangerous and anarchic mindset inspired by events in Bangladesh and West Bengal. They also reiterated their demand for CM Siddaramaiah’s resignation in light of the allegations against him.

Dakshina Kannada MP Brijesh Chowta added that the police should file a suo motu case against D’Souza for making unconstitutional statements during the Mangaluru protest.
