Hiriyadka: A tragic incident occurred when a pre-university college student ended his life by jumping into a well along with his school bag allegedly after his parents advised him to reduce mobile usage and focus on his studies.
Prathamesh (17), a first-year PUC student at the Government Pre-University College in Hiriyadka and a resident near Anjaru Police Quarters, reportedly spent excessive time on his mobile phone. His academic performance had been declining, and with exams approaching, his parents had advised him to concentrate on his studies and confiscated his mobile phone.
After leaving home for college, Prathamesh did not attend his classes nor return home, leading his worried parents to file a missing person report at Hiriyadka Police Station. Despite extensive searches, the student could not be found on Monday. On Tuesday morning, a school bag was spotted floating in an abandoned well near the Hiriyadka First Grade College.
Upon receiving the information, the police immediately arrived at the scene and used rescue equipment to retrieve Prathamesh’s body from the well. The body was sent to Kasturba Hospital in Manipal for a post-mortem examination, and later handed over to the family.
Suicide is preventable. If you get any such thoughts, consult or seek expert help.
