District administrations urge eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations

In an effort to protect natural water sources, the district administrations of both districts have issued guidelines urging the public to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in an environment friendly manner.

The administrations have strictly prohibited the immersion of Gauri and Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) and coated with chemical paints in natural water bodies such as lakes and wells. Violations of these orders will be met with legal action under the Indian Penal Code.

The district administrations have recommended the installation of idols made from natural materials and coated with eco-friendly paints. These idols should only be immersed at designated sites. For public installations of Ganesh idols, committees are required to obtain necessary permissions from local authorities and the police department. Additionally, the use of loudspeakers is prohibited between 10 PM and 6 AM, as per the statement from the District Collector’s office.

This initiative is aimed at ensuring that the festivities do not harm the environment and that public health and safety are prioritized during the celebrations.
