Bengaluru city police have clarified that the message, circulating on social media, about free travel for women traveling alone at night if they call on the 1091 helpline number is fake.

A few days ago, some miscreants posted on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, suggesting that women who are out alone between 10 PM and 6 AM and unable to find transportation can call the helpline number 1091, and the police will provide a free ride home.

In response, the police clarified that no such scheme has been implemented. They emphasized that this is completely false and urged the public not to believe or spread this misinformation. In cases of emergency, they advised calling 112 for assistance. The police have also registered a case against those responsible for spreading this false information on social media
