Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is reportedly planning to revive the “Bitcoin” scandal that had previously caused a stir at the international level. This move is seen as part of his strategy to launch an aggressive political attack against the BJP by digging up scams that occurred during their regime.

Before heading to Delhi for a meeting with the high command, Siddaramaiah reportedly had discussions with officials regarding this case. The officials allegedly informed him that the scam’s reach extends to BJP’s national leaders. Some have advised Siddaramaiah that this could be a potent weapon to embarrass the BJP on a national scale. The strategy appears to be a counterattack against the BJP, which regularly accuses him.

The Congress is aware that some of its leaders’ children are also allegedly involved in the Bitcoin case. However, it is felt that not using this opportunity for political leverage would be a missed strategy. Siddaramaiah has reportedly discussed this with senior police officials and Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara.

Background: A total of eight cases related to Bitcoin have been registered, with a chargesheet filed in only one of them. The main accused, Sriki, and three police officers have been arrested. The CID SIT (Special Investigation Team) is still investigating the remaining cases. Sources suggested that the children of two prominent BJP leaders are involved, with some evidence allegedly indicating that Sriki assisted one BJP leader’s son in hacking.

The Congress leaders have decided to revive the Bitcoin case as a counterattack against the BJP, whose accusations in the MUDA case have tarnished their reputation nationally.

What is the Bitcoin Scandal?

  • A scandal caused a major stir during the previous BJP government in the state.
  • The scam is alleged to involve BJP’s national leaders.
  • Sriki allegedly assisted a prominent BJP leader’s son in hacking.
  • CM Siddaramaiah could potentially use this to counter BJP’s accusations in the MUDA case.
