Karkala: The two accused, who were arrested by the police in connection with the case of abducting and raping a Hindu woman, have been remanded in police custody for four days, Udupi SP Dr Arun K said.

The accused, Altaf and Savera (Xavier) Richard Quadrous, were produced before the judge in Karkala on Saturday. As requested by the city police, the court ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody for four days for further investigation.

The police took the accused to the place where the incident took place on Saturday and searched the place. Beer bottle, water bottle and other items were found at the spot.

Police have received the blood test report that shows the young victim had been drugged. It has been confirmed that there are narcotic substances in her blood, said Udupi SP.

It is gathered that no drug content was found in the blood test of Altaf and another accused.

According to police, when Altaf was questioned about the drug being found in young woman’s blood, he allegedly pointed to a powder in found the car and said that this is what the girl had taken. The police have sent samples of the powder to FSL for testing.

The police said that it will also be checked whether the substance found in the victim’s blood is the same. A separate case has been registered in this regard at the Karkala Town police station.

An investigation is also underway as to where the drug was obtained and where it came from. The victim is yet to give her statement before the judge, and will do so when she is able, District Superintendent of Police Dr. K. Arun said.

Meanwhile, Altaf’s mother Aisha said the family did not have any idea about his crime. She said her son owned a tipper vehicle and were engaged in sand business. He is married and has two children. If he left home in the morning, he would return at 10-12 at night. “We had no idea about the rape or him taking drugs,” Aisha told the media.
