Udupi Sri Krishna Janmashtami Message: Pray to savior for protection of the world

Team Udayavani, Aug 26, 2024, 9:56 AM IST

The divine incarnation of Lord Krishna took place during the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) in the month of Simha, under the Rohini Nakshatra. Lord Krishna’s birth occurred at midnight, during the moon’s rise. This is the time to heartily welcome the Lord.

The purpose of Lord Krishna’s incarnation was for the “protection of the virtuous, destruction of the wicked, and the reestablishment of dharma (righteousness),” (“परित्राणाय साधूनां विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्। धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय सम्भवामि युगे युगे॥”) as stated in the Bhagavad Gita. It is sacred to remember Him on His birthday and to contribute to the cause He undertook. We must reflect on Lord Krishna from a perspective of wisdom. Simultaneously, this occasion is also celebrated as “Krishna Leelotsava,” where we honor His divine playfulness.

Tonight (Monday) at 12:07 AM, offer Arghya (holy water) to Lord Krishna, remembering and expressing gratitude for His efforts in uplifting the world. Before this, perform pooja (worship) three times with Bilva, Tulsi, Garike, Parijata, and Kamala flowers. This should be done by everyone, regardless of age or gender.

The next day, the celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth should be observed with the Leelotsava. It is a rare opportunity to serve the world. Around 5,000 years ago, Acharya Madhva installed the historical stone idol of Lord Krishna in Udupi, one of the seven sacred places that bestow salvation. This festival is celebrated annually, and the rituals are described in the texts Jayanti Kalpa and Jayanti Nirnaya. Today, the world is facing numerous challenges, and the mission of Krishna’s incarnation is more relevant than ever. Let us pray to the Savior for the continued upliftment of the world and work towards that goal.

Paryaya Sri Puthige Sri Krishna Matha, Udupi
