Manipal: The death toll in the drowning incident at Chashmavathi River in Nailapade in Alevoor rose to two following the death of the critically injured student on Wednesday, August 28.

Earlier today (Wednesday morning), one of the two students who had been admitted to a private hospital in Manipal also succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased students have been identified as Aaron Roger Leen (17) from Thiruvananthapuram and Madhav (18) from Kolkata.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 25, when the students went swimming in the river and ended up drowning. Four students had gone to the river, of whom two were receiving treatment at the private hospital in Manipal for the past two days.

Local residents promptly launched a rescue operation, pulling the students out of the water and rushing them to the hospital. Unfortunately, neither student who had been admitted survived.

Both deceased students were enrolled at an educational institution in Manipal. A case has been registered at the Manipal Police Station.
