Kasturba Hospital Manipal Unveils Advanced Retinal Imaging Technology: CLARUS 700 Camera

Manipal: The Department of Ophthalmology at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, has taken a significant leap forward in-patient care with the inauguration of the CLARUS 700 – HD Ultra-widefield Fundus Imaging with Fluorescein Angiography Camera. This state-of-the-art retinal imaging system, developed by ZEISS, promises to revolutionize eye care, particularly for patients having diabetes and hypertension.

The CLARUS 700 was inaugurated by Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences) at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Speaking at the event, Dr. Rao emphasized the hospital’s commitment to integrating the latest technology into patient care. “Kasturba Hospital Manipal has always been at the forefront of introducing advanced technology for enhanced patient care. The addition of the CLARUS 700 to our ophthalmology department underscores our mission to provide the highest standard of healthcare. This innovative technology marks a new era in eye care for our patients, particularly those with diabetic retinopathy, age related retinal diseases and other retinal disorders ”

The event also saw the presence of other esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of Kasturba Medical College (KMC) Manipal, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal, Dr Naveen S Salins, Associate Dean, KMC Manipal and Dr. Yogish Kamath, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Shailaja S, Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, provided an overview of the CLARUS 700, highlighting its capabilities as a comprehensive ultra-widefield retinal camera. “The ZEISS CLARUS 700 was designed to capture ultra-widefield images in true color with unmatched image quality. It offers a complete suite of modalities, including fluorescein angiography, enabling eye care specialists to conduct thorough retinal examinations.”

This advanced imaging system provides an unparalleled view of the retina, capturing detailed images critical for the early detection and monitoring of eye diseases. Particularly beneficial for patients with diabetes or hypertension, the CLARUS 700 allows for comprehensive retinal exams without the need for dilation, making visits quicker and more comfortable for patients.

The introduction of the CLARUS 700 at Kasturba Hospital marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to enhance patient care through cutting-edge technology.
