Geethartha Chinthane 25: Self-satisfaction is the greatest reward

Krishna says that karma is not about external actions; true karma is mental (related to the mind). The primary karma should be bhakti (devotion), and everything else should support this. When the thought arises that “I am special,” it brings anxiety and sorrow. However, if one understands that they are the least in society, there is no room for anxiety or sorrow. This is the essence behind the concept of “Dasoham” (I am a servant). But even among servants, there should be no thought of being a “special servant.”

When Ravana asked Hanuman who he was, Hanuman replied, “I am the least in Sugriva’s kingdom.” When sending a messenger, who is chosen? Not the important persons.

Problems arise only when we perceive ourselves as superior. When you believe you are the last or least, there is no question of feeling disappointed. Sorrow comes when expectations are not met. Without expectations, there is no sorrow. One should feel that receiving God’s love is enough.

If karma is performed for self-satisfaction, there is no room for anxiety. The obsession with the results of actions is the root cause of all suffering. What greater reward is there than self-satisfaction?
