Udupi: As a precautionary measure during the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi, the District Commissioner has issued an order banning the sale of liquor in Udupi.
According to the order by DC Dr. K. Vidyakumari, liquor sales will be prohibited across Udupi district on September 7 and within Udupi City Municipality limits on September 9 and September 11. The ban will be effective from 6 AM to midnight on these days.
The ban is intended to prevent potential disturbances during the festival, particularly during the immersion of Ganesh idols, when incidents involving intoxicated individuals could lead to public disorder, the order said.
The decision has been taken under the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965, and the Karnataka Excise (Sale of Indian and Foreign Liquor) Rules, 1968, using the powers granted under Section 21.
