Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations begin across Coastal Karnataka

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations have begun in coastal Karnataka on Saturday, following the Gauri festival observed on Friday.
Preparations for the festival are in full swing, with Ganesh pandals and public celebration committees across temples and organizations ready for the festivities. There is brisk activity in the sale of flowers, fruits, and sugarcane as vendors cater to the festival’s demands. In many places, the Ganesh idols were brought in on Friday evening, with the installation and special prayers happening on Saturday morning, followed by cultural events.
To install banners, buntings, or organize processions during the installation and immersion of Ganesh idols, police permission is mandatory. Organizers are required to obtain a no-objection certificate from the respective police station. As a result, most celebrations are proceeding with official approval from the police.
The police department has granted permission for 481 Ganesh pandals across the district. Of these, 406 locations are classified as general, 73 as sensitive, and 2 as highly sensitive areas. Special security arrangements are in place during processions in sensitive and highly sensitive areas to ensure a peaceful celebration.
