A group of young men from Kapu, led by Sachin Shetty, raised Rs 14.33 lakh for an orphanage by dressing in costumes and collecting donations during the Ashtami festival.
The funds were handed over to Tanula Tarun, the head of the Hosa Belaku orphanage in Karkala’s Bailur-Kauduru area, on Wednesday.
The group, comprising Sachin, Chetan, Nitesh, Sudeep, and Abhishek, dressed as clowns and traveled through Udupi and Mangalore to raise funds for the orphanage.
QR Code for Donations
A unique feature of their effort was the use of the Hosa Belaku orphanage’s QR code during their rounds for digital donations.
Additionally, the team’s supporters covered the expenses for the costumes, ensuring that all collected cash went directly to the orphanage.
“We have been running the Hosa Belaku orphanage for the past eleven years, serving around 180 individuals who have been separated from their families. With the support of generous people, we continue to offer our services. Sachin and his team visited the orphanage, observed the challenges we face, and made this wonderful effort to help us,” said Tanula Tarun, the head of Hosa Belaku orphanage.
