Viral post about gang rape in Davanagere is fake news: Police issue clarification

Davangere Police Department has warned the public that the viral message about gang rape is completely false. There was no incident of gang rape anywhere in Davangere. The district police department has made it clear that what is being spread is pure fake news.

The viral Instagram post read: “Hello girls of Davangere….!! Here’s a shocking n dangerous news for all the girls A recent incident which took place near nittuvalli, Davangere A girl was raped by a boy’s gang around 7.00 PM So all the girls please be safe, there’s no necessity to go alone anywhere and please avoid going out where no much people r there….”

As the post started circulating on social media platforms, the police department conducted checks and found it to be fake news, said Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth.

She further added that spreading false news is wrong and warned of strict action against anyone engaging in fear-mongering.

She also emphasized that everyone should be cautious while using social media.
