Kundapura: A soap oil tanker leaking oil on the road caused a series of accidents on the highway here, leading to over 25-30 vehicles skidding.
The incident took place on Saturday when a 16-wheeler tanker carrying 32 tons of soap oil from Mangaluru to Uttar Pradesh developed a leak near Maravanthe. The oil mixed with rainwater, making the road slippery from Thekkatte to Hemmadi.
Several two-wheeler riders lost control, and minor accidents involving light vehicles were reported. Six people were hospitalized.
The police, after being alerted by the driver, set up barricades along the affected 15-kilometer stretch and enforced one-way traffic. Firefighters and national highway contractors later washed the road to clear the oil, preventing further accidents.
