Mangaluru: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on Wednesday near the Clock Tower in Mangaluru, condemning the recent demolition of the Hampankatta bus stop by the municipal authorities. The protestors demanded the reconstruction of the bus stop at the same location.

During the protest, students unexpectedly took to the streets, which led to a mild lathi-charge by the police to disperse the crowd.

The overnight removal of the bus stop near University College, Hampankatta, has been deemed unfortunate by the protestors. The bus stop was essential for students from nearby educational institutions, as well as for visitors to hospitals and other public spaces. With its demolition, the public, especially students, are now forced to stand in the open, braving rain and sun. The bus stop also catered to a large number of students from major colleges in the area.

Protestors have urged the immediate reconstruction of the bus stop and submitted a memorandum to the Mangaluru Tehsildar, seeking a swift resolution to the issue.
