Honorarium for Tulu teachers released

Mangaluru: A sum of Rs 10 lakh has been released as the honorarium for Tulu teachers who teach the Tulu language in primary and high schools of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for the year 2023. This amount has been released from the annual grant of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, said Academy President Tharanath Gatti Kapikad.
Tharanath Gatti Kapikad expressed his gratitude to Kannada and Culture Minister Shivraj Thangadagi and the Department’s Director Dr. Dharanidevi Malagatti for approving the release of the honorarium for Tulu teachers.
Tulu was introduced as an optional subject in 2010. Currently, Tulu is taught in 33 schools under the state board curriculum. Last year, 681 students opted for Tulu as an elective language in the SSLC exams, and all students successfully passed the exam. Out of them, 320 students scored a perfect 100 marks in the subject. These 320 students were recently felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each at a program held in Tulabhavana, informed the Tulu Academy President.
