Geethartha Chinthane 35: Siddhi is achievable through Swakarma

If one performs their designated duty (Swadharma), the financial gain may be minimal. However, Siddhi (success) can be achieved through the observance of Swakarma. Srimadacharya, in his Gita Bhasya, states: “Swakarmana tamabhyarchya siddhim vindati manavah.” The world’s order is shaped by the observance of Shastrokta Swadharma — the responsibilities prescribed by the scriptures. Swadharma dictates that one should first fulfill one’s own responsibilities. After studying the Veda of their own branch, they may then study other Vedas.
We had an experience like this: As soon as we completed Gurukula education, there was great enthusiasm for establishing modern institutions for higher learning. At that time, our Vidyaguru, Sri VidyamanyaTheertha, opened our eyes. He asked, “What do you think Sri Madhwacharya and Sri Vadiraja expect from you? Do you believe they would be pleased if you were to run modern educational institutions? What is the purpose for which God has placed you in this position?”
At that moment, we understood. Running a religious educational institution is challenging — it is full of expenses and devoid of profits. We resolved to do whatever was possible and continued with our efforts.
