A shocking case of severe assault on a three-and-a-half-year-old child has come to light in Udupi. The child, identified as Prerith, was brought to the Udupi Government Hospital by his mother for treatment on Thursday, September 13, when severe injuries were discovered on his body.

Upon noticing the extent of the injuries, the district health officer referred the child to KMC Hospital for further treatment. Officials from the District Child Protection Unit also visited the hospital to assess the situation. Based on a complaint filed by an officer from the child protection unit, the Amasebailu Police registered a case on Friday.

The mother, Poornapriya, has not provided any information regarding the injuries on the child’s body. Since the child remains unconscious, details surrounding the injuries are yet to be determined. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to uncover the cause of the injuries.

Child Protection Officer Nagaratna Nayak commented on the incident, stating, “There are serious signs of assault on the child’s body. Based on information from the district health officer, we visited the hospital and have received a report after assessing the child’s condition. The child is currently receiving treatment and is recovering.”

A complaint has been filed at the Amasebailu Police Station by the Child Protection Unit. Authorities plan to take the child’s statement once he recovers. The investigation is ongoing.
