Geethartha Chinthane 37: Gita’s applicability to agriculture, health, and sports

The teachings of the Gita also apply to agriculture. Profits are lower in natural or organic farming, while modern fertilizer-based farming is more profitable. However, one day, we may reach a point where the land becomes barren, and agriculture will no longer be possible. In organic farming, even if the income is lower, farming can be sustained continuously. Instead of worrying about whether it will rain or not before putting effort into farming, the message of the Gita is to focus on doing our work first.

This philosophy also applies to the health sector. We often rely on painkillers, but this can lead to serious health problems later on. Even though natural remedies may cause some discomfort initially, there are long-term benefits. The phrase ‘Sahajam Karma Kaunteya Sadoshampi…’ can be interpreted with Sadoshampi referring to pain. The Gita is not only about salvation; it also has practical messages for everyday life.

The Gita’s teachings can also be applied to sports. Recently, Olympic shooter Manu Bhakar mentioned that the Gita’s message of ‘Don’t expect results’ was her inspiration for success. If we constantly think about the outcome, the intensity of our efforts will decrease. If the results don’t meet our expectations, we may lose motivation.
