Exploitation is widespread across all fields, not just cinema: Music Director Gurukiran

Renowned playback singer and music director Dr. Gurukiran voiced his opinion on Friday, stating that exploitation is prevalent in all sectors, not just in cinema. He questioned the rationale behind forming committees specifically for the film industry, suggesting that doing so for every field would hinder work. “Those who are actively working never make such demands. Problems start when unnecessary restrictions are imposed,” he said during a press conference.
Speaking to reporters in Mangaluru, Gurukiran asked, “Which sector is free from misconduct? What actions have been taken in other fields?” He emphasized that the film industry is already in distress due to excessive regulations. “Cinema is struggling with too many rules. Let the industry grow without these unnecessary constraints,” he added.
When asked whether the ongoing Darshan case would affect the film industry, Gurukiran clarified that Darshan’s arrest was a personal matter and had nothing to do with the industry itself. “Darshan’s arrest is related to a personal issue, not because he’s an actor. People must not link his profession to the incident,” he said.
Referring to the legacy of legendary actor Dr. Rajkumar, Gurukiran said, “Rajkumar followed a strict code of conduct, which is why he is still respected by everyone. It’s impossible for everyone to be like him.”
Gurukiran also mentioned that while the details of the incident are still unclear, the law will reveal the truth through investigation. “The police have acted fairly without showing any special treatment because he is a celebrity. If Darshan is released, we’ll be happy. However, if he is found guilty, we must all respect the law of this land,” he concluded.
