Mangaluru: In a major verdict today, the Mangaluru First Additional District and Sessions Court, under Judge Mallikarjuna Swamy H.S., sentenced two accused in the high-profile 2019 murder of Shrimati Shetty to life imprisonment.

The convicted individuals, Jonas Samson and his wife Victoria Mathias, were awarded life imprisonment for brutally murdering Shrimati Shetty, a chit-fund operator from Attavar.

Another accomplice, identified as Raju, was sentenced to six and a half months of simple imprisonment for his role in the crime.

The incident occurred when Shrimati Shetty visited Jonas’ home in Suterpet to demand repayment of funds. In a planned attack, Jonas and Victoria murdered her, looted her gold jewellery, and then dismembered her body into 29 pieces. The remains were later disposed of across multiple locations in the city at night by Jonas.

Public prosecutor Judith Olga Margaret Crasta represented the state in the case.
