Yuva Dasara 2024: Event Line-up Draws Criticism; Here’s What to Expect from October 6-10

Mysuru: As the grand Mysuru Dasara festival draws near, preparations are in full swing for Yuva Dasara, the highly anticipated youth-centric event. This year, however, the venue has been shifted from the usual Maharaja College Grounds to a larger, open space near Uttanahalli, covering 100 acres.

While excitement is building for the grand musical performances set to take place between October 6 and 10, the event’s line-up has sparked some controversy online, with many questioning the limited representation of local Kannada talent.

Yuva Dasara 2024 Event Highlights:

• October 6: Bollywood singing sensation Shreya Ghoshal will kick off Yuva Dasara with a live musical performance.
• October 7: Popular Kannada music director Ravi Basrur and his team will take the stage for a musical night, bringing a local flavor to the celebration.
• October 8: Bollywood rapper and hitmaker Badshah is set to entertain the crowd with his energetic performance and chart-topping tracks.
• October 9: Legendary music composer A.R. Rahman will grace the stage, adding a touch of brilliance to the ongoing festivities.
• October 10: The grand finale will be conducted by the iconic music director Ilaiyaraaja, closing the Yuva Dasara with a mesmerizing evening of music.

Backlash Over Bollywood-Focused Line-up:

As soon as the program list was released, several social media users voiced their disappointment, accusing the organisers of sidelining Kannada artists. While Ravi Basrur’s inclusion was appreciated, many questioned why the majority of performances are by Bollywood and Tamil artists, asking, “Where are the opportunities for Kannada talent?”

The criticism gained momentum on social platforms, with many calling for more representation of local talent in the prestigious event that celebrates Karnataka’s rich culture and heritage.
