The arrested has been identified as Vinay Kumar, a resident of Immadihalli. Police recovered two stolen gold mangalsutra chains weighing 77 grams, valued at Rs 5 lakh, and a two-wheeler used in the crime from his possession.
Recently, the accused entered a small shop in Vinayaka Nagar near Whitefield, posing as a customer. While the shopkeeper was weighing sugar, Vinay snatched her mangalsutra and fled.
Based on a complaint filed in connection with the incident, the police began an investigation, tracked the suspect through various leads and arrested him on Hagadur Main Road in Whitefield. During questioning, Vinay confessed to the chain snatching.
Vinay Kumar, originally from Tirupati worked at a private audit office in Whitefield. He had been living in a rented house in Immadihalli for the past year.
